Cognitive control underpins our ability to regulate thoughts and actions to align with goals. Disruptions in control are critical to alcohol use disorder (AUD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and traumatic brain injury (TBI). My research revolves around three inquiries: 1) how do we learn to exert cognitive control? 2) how do we adaptively modify cognitive control behaviors? 3) what can the neuroscience of cognitive control tell us about brain mechanisms contributing to psychopathology? My research program integrates computational modeling, EEG, fMRI, and machine learning. Using these tools, I apply a computational psychiatry lens to translate basic science into applied clinical knowledge.
